Wondering how you can stay hydrated when you’re bored out of your mind with water? While more and more people are recognizing the role that proper hydration plays in facilitating optimal health, many simply don’t enjoy drinking 6-8 glasses of it each day.
If this is your challenge, you should know that there are several ways you can overcome water boredom … Here are just a few:
Fresh Fruit
Eating fruit is a delicious, nutritious way to stay hydrated. As many health experts note, most fruits are made up of between 70-80% water, meaning that eating them facilitates the process of hydrating your cells.
The added benefit of eating fruit is that it provides your body with a wide range of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that further optimize bodily processes such as metabolism function and digestion.
Coconut Water
Coconut water is from young, green coconuts and is a natural source of electrolytes including sodium and potassium. At only 46 calories for eight ounces, coconut water is a great way to hydrate!
Citrus Water
You’ve no doubt seen people add a wedge of lemon, lime or a squeeze of orange to their water.
If you haven’t tried it, you just may be surprised at how much more water you can drink with these citrus-y flavors. And you get an added benefit of vitamin C.
But you don’t have to stop at citrus fruits … why not try any combination of homemade fruit infused waters?
Smoothies
Homemade smoothies are a great way to keep your body hydrated, especially if they’re made with real fruit.
Simply purchase your favorite fruits (peaches, apples, strawberries, etc.) and blend them up with a bit of ice and/or chilled water. Tailor the amount of liquid you use based on the level of thickness you want.
Also note that green smoothies are effective in keeping you hydrated, too.
Lettuces
Did you know that most lettuces are about 90%-96% water? This makes them an excellent option when you’re attempting to keep hydrated.
There are tons of ways to create delicious salads using lettuce as a base. You can even use a variety of lettuces (e.g. romaine, arugula and radicchio) to create an endless number of taste combinations.
So if you’re tired of plain water, no more excuses! From drinking coconut water, flavored waters or smoothies to eating more fresh fruits and lettuce-based salads, you now know how to hydrate in healthy and and flavorful ways!
